Meet Wolfie Rankin

The charismatic game show host Wolfie Rankin is the second subject of my film.

The charismatic game show host Wolfie Rankin is the second subject of my film. Wolfie has created a weekly music trivia show that is quickly gaining in popularity in Second Life. Its a whiz bang fast flying music quiz show . "When I started RockIt only 2 or 3 people turned up. Now hundreds of people have seen the show." Click here. to teleport to the set and find out when his next show will be.

Wolfie always felt an affinity with wolves. It wasn't until he started using the Internet, that he realised there were other like-minded people. He discovered there were Furry communities all over the world. Wolfie associates more with weres and therianthropy as he feels a strong spiritual connection to wolves.

On the internet he had found his kind and felt accepted for the first time. Second Life has enabled him to unleash the beast, so to speak. In Second Life he can look and behave like the wolf he always felt he was.

When I met Wolfie almost a year ago, I knew nothing of the furry community and their culture. He held my hand and guided me deep into his fascinating world. They are such a beautiful community and add alot of creativity and colour to Second Life. Wolfie also enjoys making machinima and some of his work can be seen here.

Furries don't (always) bite

I met Wolfie via RockIt, and look forward to seeing the documentary - but I hope "Cyberstars" is a working title... I hope that it captures the real (counter?) culture of Second Life - particularly from an Aussie perspective. Previous documentaries have been obsessed with making money (e.g. SL property barons) and freaking out about griefers and their flying penises. IMHO, SL is nothing like that - RockIt, Cafe Trivia etc. are far more interesting. Keep it "real". :)

Rockit Rocks indeed!

Rockit is great fun and Wolfie does a superb job. I've only been lucky enough to attend a few sessions so far and amazingly managed to get on the "panel" but answering any further questions correctly or beating the lightning fast Rockit stalwarts is a totally different matter!... LOL It's all done with great professionalism and lots of humour - I can't wait for the next show! You might need to make the venue bigger soon though Wolfie! ;-) I enjoyed the clips too :-) Cheers! Orval

Thanks Mate. Machinima is a technique used to produce films, similar to animation, but by using an environment like Secondlife rather than doing it all by hand. Rockit will be shown as part of the Cyberstars documentary and Shelley will be using Machinima techniques to get it all down on "tape", so that's how it all ties in. Read more of Shelleys Blog to discover how it's done. Wolfie!

Rockit Rocks :-)

Well done Wolfie. I must say I have not been a regular participant in Rockit, although when I have, it was good fun. My music knowledge, of what there is of it, is rather dated, and I don't stand a chance against the contestants who take part :-) It is very well done and Wolfie puts a lot of work into it preparing the questions. Is Machinima a program on SBS ? I can't see any reference to it in the SBS TV guide. Dilbert.
